For those working in industry the subject of energy has never been so important – nor seemingly so complex. The blizzard of acronyms from DSR to RHI to ESOS to AMR can leave you feeling quite dizzy and it’s a challenge for the dedicated energy professional to keep up with the pace of change, let alone those who find it as just one of their responsibilities among an array of others. If you are expected to be an expert in technology, risk management, finance, Demand-side response, efficiency, behavioural change and market mechanisms where do you find the latest, straightforward information and how do you source the right partners to help navigate a clear path forward?
That’s why Energyst Media has launched The Energyst Event, which has been specifically designed to meet those challenges. The inaugural event will be taking place on 17-18 April 2018 at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham. At a time of unprecedented change in the energy market, The Energyst Event brings a much-needed focus on energy and the changing face of energy management and the effect it has on the bottom line - as opposed to broader environmental concerns.
The event will concentrate on the fusion of energy management and the convergence of efficiency, procurement and flexibility, all linked by data analytics and AMR (Automatic Meter Reading). These topics will form the backbone of the event through a programme of seminars, panel debates and an exhibition of equipment suppliers and service providers.
The event is headline sponsored by Green Energy Consulting and supported byREstore and Orsted.
Comprehensive conference programme
The two day event will feature a comprehensive, free to attend, educational programme. With content partners such as Endeco Technologies, EnerNOC, Engie, PCMG, Inenco, Planet9, Haven Power and Baxi Heating the conference stream is centred on a debate or a discussion emphasising the nature of the market and benefits end-users can extract from this with partnerships, strategies and technology. Each session has a chair and three to five panellists. The content programmes will kick off with an independent keynote setting the scene followed by a case study showing that this can happen now and it isn’t just a fantasy.
Today, energy procurement, management and flexibility are now intrinsically linked. The conference aims to explore the relationship between disciplines and offer solutions to help businesses drive down costs and consumption while maximising revenue that, in an ideal world, can be reinvested in better energy management.
Promoting dialogue, discussion and interaction; the event will be a two-day forum for energy users and service providers to engage and create better energy outcomes.
There will be two conference streams taking place over the event:
Energy Fusion
The Energy Fusion theatre will cover: Flexibility in consumption and procurement, Battery storage and DSR, Blockchain, AI, big data etc. Delegates will hear not just from solutions providers, but end users in the industrial and commercial sectors, as well as the public sector.
The key rationale is to arm delegates with insight into how cutting edge technologies and market developments are navigating a path towards a smarter energy system – one that might even provide a revenue stream - and how to best exploit the opportunities being presented.
Some of the topics the conference stream will touch upon are: How policy, regulation and markets point to convergence of efficiency, procurement and flexibility – this seminar will cover everything from renewables through balancing to flexibility to half hourly metering and settlement; Energy-as-a-service - what is it and will it work for you? Turning big data into big money – including topics such as ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme), flexibility, efficiency savings and smart procurement.
Integrated Solutions
The second educational stream running in The Integrated Solutions theatre will host discussions around the solutions to energy management’s perennial problems in a converging energy landscape. It will tackle individual market challenges and barriers but within the context of a broader, integrated energy system.
Elements such as heat, hybrid and integrated technology and service solutions, finance, and crucially people, and the skills needed to ensure optimal outcomes, will be covered by market experts over two days.
This stream will feature case studies and practical discussions and provide the opportunity for delegates to put their questions and concerns directly to expert speakers.
Some of the topics the conference stream will touch upon are: Will IoT aid energy management or swamp it with data? – exploring large-scale deployment of IoT is increasingly economically viable, what are the implications for businesses and AI: Is tomorrow’s TPI a robot?
The Heat Report
Of particular interest to readers of PWE is the launch of a new market intelligence report on heat, mission critical sites and intelligent energy systems..
The 2018 Heat Report will be launched in The Integrated Solutions Theatre on the first day of the event in a session entitled Heat: Getting the cold shoulder? The report analyses attitudes to the effective decarbonising of heat.
Given that almost half of UK final energy demand is heat, £32 billion a year, effective energy management, cost savings and carbon reduction targets cannot be realistically achieved if we don't improve the efficiency of our heating systems. For some this will be installing modern efficient boiler technology, others will focus on CHP units, waste heat recovery, heat pumps, renewable fuels and notably the huge potential of heat networks.
Two years after The Energyst’s original Heat Report, the 2018 edition compares and contrasts attitudes to heating in the UK's industrial, commercial and public sectors, exploring the barriers to cost effective decarbonisation and what lies ahead.
Exhibition
The Energyst Event also includes an exhibition area that will give visitors the chance to explore products and services from established multinationals to innovative start-ups. Visitors will get the chance to see energy giants such as Total Gas & Power, Scottish Power, National Grid, Kiwi Power and Haven Power and get answers to their questions from a range of experts on stand. The exhibition space will also provide visitors with the opportunity to network with peers and experts alike.
The full educational programme is available to view online at: www.theenergystevent.com. The event is free to enter and it is highly recommend that visitors register in advance for entry tickets, especially for seminar places as these are extremely popular.
