Leading market brands converge for the inaugural Festival of Manufacturing Excellence
Published:  08 September, 2020

Leaders representing some of the biggest brand names in UK and European manufacturing – including GSK, Siemens, Springfields and AG Barr - will come together for a major conference next month which aims to celebrate and reflect upon the contribution of the sector throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The inaugural Festival of Manufacturing Excellence (FOME 2020) will take place virtually over two-days on 7-8 October and is open to attendees from across the world. It is being curated and delivered by The Manufacturing Institute (TMI), a UK-based support body which delivers specialist training, leadership development and onsite consultancy to help manufacturers improve their business performance.

The event will use a purpose-built online platform to combine interactive workshops, insightful panel discussions and masterclasses, with a number of keynote speeches and presentations. Those lined-up to deliver keynotes include; Julie Deane OBE, founder and CEO of the Cambridge Satchel Company; Josh Valman, founder and CEO of RPD International; and Brendan Hall, professional yacht racing skipper, author and leadership expert.

At the heart of FOME 2020 will be practical advice on how manufacturing businesses can move from complexity to simplicity, underpinned by a newly published TMI white paper, ‘Behind the Fads, Buzzwords and the Proverbial’.

The white paper offers recommendations to help manufacturers eliminate unnecessary complexity by following ten steps that will improve performance by reducing waste, avoiding errors, and making life simpler for employers and employees.

Adam Buckley, leadership and enterprise excellence coach - The Manufacturing Institute, said: “There have been so many great examples of manufacturers pulling together this year to help people through the challenges presented by COVID-19. Whether that’s been distilleries switching their production lines to sanitising gels, major engineering and aerospace firms mass-producing ventilators, or textiles firms turning focus towards hospital gowns and facemasks.

“The Festival of Manufacturing Excellence will be an opportunity for those in the sector to celebrate such achievements and to look in the mirror and reflect on best practice from recent months. This is a chance for manufacturers to come together so that we can rethink, retool and restart operations in the most effective way possible, as we continue responding to the global impact of coronavirus.”

The Festival of Manufacturing Excellence will take place on 7-8 October. In addition to the live event over the two days, there will be 30 days’ of on-demand content available from the festival for all attendees to access.
