Watkins Hire says it introduced its Temperature Control Emergency Planning Service (TCEPS) to assist all clients that rely on steam, hot water, heating or cooling for uninterrupted business continuity. This was highlighted when the Health and Safety Executive placed a no access order on the onsite boiler house of a well known paper manufacturer as asbestos had been found - production was forced to stop.
The site was steam critical, and stopping production would have caused thousands of pounds in lost revenue for each hour the site was without steam.
The site had a Watkins Silver level Temperature Control Emergency Service plan in place, this guaranteed that an alternative steam solution could be deployed without delay, which would protect production and therefore minimise financial loss.
Having completed a comprehensive survey of all the temperature control plant and steam systems as part of a Temperature Control Emergency Service site visit, a detailed emergency plan had already been provided and the required equipment had been ring fenced. The plan included full details of the equipment required in the event of a failure, siting of the temporary equipment, access required, power requirements, connections required in existing pipe work, also the full contact details and escalation process.
A high pressure (250psi) trailerised 16,000 lb/hr steam boiler was deployed for delivery from the local depot along with engineering support for the installation.
Due to the correct connections having been put in place following its survey recommendations and power and water supplies available, it allowed its engineers to quickly install the steam boiler package. Within a short time Watkins Hire had a rental steam boiler up and running on site effectively producing steam for the client, preventing any further revenue losses and production issues.
Watkins Hire has been providing steam boilers to a wide range of temporary steam applications for over 150 years. Typical applications include chemical processing, paper industry, textiles, food processing, petro chemical, pharmaceutical, power stations and healthcare.
The three levels of plan can be tailored to a clients individual requirements to ensure that they are fully covered in the event of an emergency. Each level of plan has a unique reference number which is quoted at the time of any emergency call off ensuring a timely response and reducing any downtime to a minimum.
