UK’s most comprehensive 4IR survey to be launched in January
Published:  10 January, 2018

The UK is only one of many manufacturing nations seeking to take advantage of new opportunities from 4IR, so we cannot be complacent if the UK is to remain competitive. To date no comprehensive survey has been undertaken to identify the UK’s readiness to take advantage of this technological change. PWE’s sister publication, Smart Machines & Factories, will therefore be embarking on the UK’s largest and most detailed survey ever undertaken on the Fourth Industrial Revolution in January 2018, sponsored by Festo, and supported by GAMBICA and the EEF.

Thousands of manufacturing professionals from across the engineering spectrum will be asked a series of questions examining perceptions, attitudes, and business readiness concerning 4IR.

The survey will ultimately help to identify how prepared and advanced the UK is with regards to implementing 4IR. This will help to establish what more needs to be done to adapt to a highly digitalised future, and benefit from the economic opportunities this brings.

The findings of this survey will be presented in a comprehensive report providing a uniquely significant insight into 4IR in the UK. There will also be a panel debate on the survey to co-inside with the report’s findings at next year’s Smart Industry Expo (co-located alongside Drives and Controls/ Fluid Power & Systems/ Air-Tech/ Plant & Asset Management Exhibitions), at the NEC during the 10-12 April. The panel debate will be located in the show’s Knowledge Hub under the heading “Smart Factory – concept to implementation”. Key figures involved with the survey, including Steve Bramley from GAMBICA, will discuss what the findings mean for industry.
