New ETB chairman

Published:  18 September, 2007

Sir Anthony Cleaver has been appointed Chairman of The Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) with effect from 31 August. Sir Anthony will succeed Dr Mike Howse who has been Chairman since Sir Gareth Roberts died. Dr Mike Howse welcomed Sir Anthony's appointment: "I am delighted that Sir Anthony is taking up the post of Chairman.  Sir Anthony brings with him a wealth of experience in the private and public sectors, spanning business and industry and academia, from which the ETB and the wider community will benefit.  He has also served on and chaired a number of influential advisory bodies to Government.”

Sir Anthony commented: “I am very pleased to be joining the ETB at this key stage of its development. With the major political parties acknowledging the contribution of science and technology in general, and engineering skills in particular, to both society and the economy, I look forward to building on the achievements of my predecessors.  Working with John Morton, the Engineering Institutions and our partners, I am determined that we take every opportunity to inspire current and future generations of young people to equip themselves for a career in this great profession.”
