Boost for 02 Dome
Published:  15 June, 2007

After an uncertain start in life the Millennium Dome in Greenwich has recently reinvented itself into a flexible venue for music, entertainment and sports that will formally open its doors in June 2007. With a 23,000 capacity, the building still maintains its status as the largest single-roofed structure in the world.

Grundfos Pumps in conjunction with M E Engineers worked together to provide the right solution to this improved attraction. The solution included 36 pumps to provide the full range of M+E services, 9 pressurisation units and 2 booster sets.

In a building with such a huge variance in demand for water, booster sets are needed to ensure that there will be sufficient water to meet all specific circumstances, therefore the main booster set specified was a bespoke Grundfos Hydro 2000 ME 8-pump (2 half pumps and 6 main pumps) variable speed booster set capable of a maximum flow of 108 litres/sec. This set is claimed to meet all the demands of such a flexible location and in an energy efficient way.
