Dry well blocking problems eliminated

Published:  27 October, 2007

Scottish Water's Annfield Pumping Station suffered almost daily blockages in its dry well weir pumps before installing two high performance centrifugal N-Pumps from ITT Flygt.

The Fluid handling and control specialist"s pumps have run without blockages, thereby eliminating costly man-hour downtime, replacement parts and complicated maintenance procedures.

Scottish Water asked Flygt to review the Leith station, and it specified two 45kW NP3301.180 pumps fitted with 632 impellers to cope with a high rag content.

After necessary pipework modifications had been made, the pumps were installed, commissioned and have operated trouble-free.

Scottish Water’s Dave Campbell said: "We haven’t had a single blockage reported since Flygt pumps were fitted. We are delighted with their performance, which has helped us make significant reductions in pump-related man-hours and power consumption.”

Due to the success of the Flygt dry well units, more pumps have been installed at Scottish Water’s Joppa Pumping Station.
