Vibration Monitoring of Rolling Bearings to Maximise Asset Reliability
Published:  21 April, 2016

Rolling bearings are critical components used extensively in many types of plant and equipment and if they fail unexpectedly, this can result in catastrophic failure with associated high repair and replacement costs.

Consequently, vibration based condition monitoring has been used for many years to detect and diagnose machine faults and form the basis of a Predictive Maintenance strategy. This means that the early signs of deterioration can be identified during operation enabling maintenance to be scheduled and operational costs reduced. This paper explores some of the fundamental concepts of vibration monitoring and presents case studies of how vibration monitoring can be used to detect and diagnose a deterioration in the condition of key assets.
