IMechE’s L&D programme to expand in 2015 to meet sector's needs

The IMechE will increase the number of qualifications it offers in flexible learning environments, provide risk assessment training as well as Lean and Six Sigma qualifications in 2015.

In order to meet the changing needs of the engineering profession, the Institution’s Learning and Development programme manager, Mark Pepperell, has said his team will also add new content, such as case studies and webinars, to support training programmes and make learning more accessible.
He explained that these new programmes and initiatives are to be developed in response to the results of the Institution’s Annual Learning and Development Survey, undertaken earlier this year where more than 1290 people in the engineering profession responded: “We launched the survey because we wanted to make sure the Institution was providing learning and development opportunities that met the needs of our members, their employers and others in the engineering profession.

“We wanted to know what subjects mattered to our members and what new training themes and topics they would like us to add to our training portfolio in 2015. This is because we want to make sure that we, like our members, are constantly developing and improving what we do.”

Pepperell said the Institution was working to make learning more accessible, adding that in 2015, “we will also offer more qualifications in flexible learning environments and will offer risk assessment training as well as LEAN and Six Sigma qualifications”.
